Siegel, Carl Ludwig

 

Born Dec. 31, 1896, in Berlin. German mathematician.

From 1922 to 1958, Siegel was a professor of mathematics in Frankfurt am Main, Göttingen, and Princeton (USA). He has conducted profound investigations in the analytic theory of numbers (transcendental numbers, quadratic forms) and the theory of functions. He has also worked on the problem of three bodies in celestial mechanics.
