Borzenkov, Iakov Andreevich

 

Born 1825; died Dec. 25, 1883. Russian anatomist, physiologist, historian of zoology, and Darwinist. Student of K. F. Rul’e. In 1855 he graduated from Moscow University; from 1870 he was a professor of comparative anatomy and physiology at that institution. A number of Borzenkov’s works are devoted to the study of the ovary in hens at various stages in its development, and also to the history of zoology. Borzenkov was the founder of a Moscow school of the comparative anatomy of vertebrates.
