Charlier, Carl Wilhelm Ludwig

 

Born Apr. 1, 1862, in Östersund; died Nov. 4,1934, in Lund. Swedish astronomer.

Charlier’s principal works are devoted to celestial mechanics and stellar astronomy. Charlier applied techniques of mathematical statistics to the study of the spatial distribution of stars in the galaxy and the true motions of stars in the solar neighborhood. Between 1908 and 1922, Charlier proposed a theory of the structure of the universe.
