Eravnoe Lakes

Eravnoe Lakes

 

a group of lakes on the watershed between the Selenga and Vitim rivers, in the Buriat ASSR.

The largest are Bol’shoe (Great) Eravnoe Lake, which has an area of 104 sq km and is 14 km long and 13 km wide; Maloe (Lesser) Eravnoe Lake, with an area of 60.5 sq km; and Sosnovoe (Pine) Lake, 24 sq km in area. The runoff of most of the lakes is to the Vitim River, through its tributary the Kholoi. The lakes are fed by rain, melted snow, and artesian water. They are important for fishing, yielding perch, roach, and pike.
