Fiske, Haley

(1852–1929) lawyer; born in New Brunswick, N.J. In 1873 he began working for a New York City law firm with the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company as his client. He became so knowledgeable about insurance that in 1891 he was made vice-president of the insurance company. There he instituted new programs including a national health campaign for policy holders (1909) and investing the company's capital in housing developments. In 1919 he became president of the company, by that time one of the largest financial institutions in the world.
