Location:Off Route 129, 10 miles south of Summersville, on Route 19.
Facilities:Picnic areas (é), picnic shelters, snack bar, hiking trails, museum, historic site, game courts, playground.
Activities:Hiking, living history demonstrations.
Special Features:On September 10, 1861 Union troops led by Brigadier General William S. Rosecrans forced Confederate troops to retreat from an entrenched position overlooking Carnifex Ferry. The Confederates' failure to regain control of the Kanawha Valley allowed the movement for West Virginia statehood to proceed.
