[¦flat ¦jak] (civil engineering) A hollow steel cushion which is made of two nearly flat disks welded around the edge and which can be inflated with oil or cement under controlled pressure; used at the arch abutments and crowns to relieve the load on the formwork at the moment of striking the formwork.
