Flat on a Failure

The act or practice of selling a stock if it reaches a certain (higher) price level but fails to break through to still higher levels. Flat on a failure is analogous to cutting one's losses, but there are no losses. Rather, there simply isn't as much profit as the investor hoped. See also: Ceiling.
