Special Features:Refuge is one of the Southeast's premier sites for viewing the rapidly diminishing longleaf pine and wiregrass ecosystem. Site also offers habitat protection for the Pine Barrens tree frog, southern bald eagle, eastern cougar, and red-cockaded woodpecker.
Habitats: 45,348 acres of longleaf pine/wiregrass interspersed with scrub oak, creek bottom hardwoods, croplands, lakes, and ponds.
Access: Open during daylight hours.
Wild life: Red-cockaded woodpecker (endangered), mallards, black ducks, pintails, wood ducks, Canada geese, eastern wild turkey, raccoon, opossum, and beaver.
