[kəm′par·ə·sən ‚test] (mathematics) A simple test for the convergence of an infinite series, according to which a series converges if the absolute values of each of its terms are equal to or less than the corresponding term of a series that is known to converge, and diverges if each of its terms is equal to or greater than the absolute value of the corresponding term of a series that is known to diverge.
