Chubu-Sangaku
Chubu-Sangaku
a national park in Japan, on Honshu Island, in Toyama, Nagano, Gifu, and Niigata prefectures. Area, about 170,000 hectares (ha), of which 63,500 ha are a preserve. Chubu-Sangaku was established in 1934 for nature conservation in the sparsely populated Japanese Alps region (elevations to 3,190 m in the Hida Range), with extinct and active volcanoes. The Asiatic black bear and Japanese macaque inhabit the forests and alpine meadows.
