It rises on the eastern slopes of the Patagonian Andes, crosses the semidesert plateaus of Patagonia in a narrow, deep valley, and empties into the Atlantic Ocean near Rawson. The main tributary is the Rio Chico on the right. The mean flow rate is about 50 cu m per sec. The Chubut carries a small volume of water; small freshets occur in winter. |
