(DPA), the central news agency of the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG). Founded in August 1941 through a merger of the news agencies of the western occupation zones of Germany. The DPA is a joint-stock society and is formally considered independent; in fact, it reflects the point of view of the ruling circles of the FRG.
