Carraraa city in central Italy in Tuscany, in the province of Massa-Carrara, 6 km from the Ligurian Sea. Marina di Carrara is the outer harbor of the city. Population, 66,800 (1969). Carrara is known for its quarries of white marble. Approximately half of those occupied in the industry of the city work in the quarrying and processing of marble, most of which is exported.
