Folk Dance, Russian
Folk Dance, Russian
a type of native Russian dance that includes round dances, improvised folk dances such as the pereplias and barynia, and dances having a definite sequence of figures, such as the quadrille and lancers.
Russian folk dances vary regionally both in their nature and in their manner of execution. They usually have local names derived from the name of a place or the song that accompanies a dance. Russian folk dances are usually written in 2/4 or 6/8 time. They may be slow or fast, with the tempo gradually accelerating. Round dances are danced by females or females and males. They are most often performed in a circle and are usually accompanied by song, which is sometimes in the form of a dialogue between the participants.
The pereplias has a competitive nature. Female dances are characterized by their flowing movements, majesty, flirtatiousness, and handkerchief play. Male dances are distinguished by their verve, agility, broad movements, and humor.
