Eremian, Suren Tigranovich
Born Mar. 28 (Apr. 10), 1908, in Tbilisi. Soviet historian; academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Armenian SSR (AN ArmSSR, 1963; corresponding member since 1953); Honored Scientist of the Armenian SSR (1961).
Eremian graduated from the University of Yerevan. He has been a professor since 1955. He worked at the Oriental Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR in Leningrad from 1935 and at the Institute of History of the AN ArmSSR from 1941. Once the director of the institute, Eremian now heads the division of ancient and medieval history; he is a specialist in the ancient and medieval history of Armenia and the entire Transcaucasus. His basic works are devoted to the question of the ethnogenesis of the Armenians, to the history of cities, and to problems of the periodization of the history of the Transcaucasian peoples, of socioeconomic and political history, and of historical geography and cartography.
