a genus of shrubs and small trees of the family Leguminosae. The branches are thin, green, and twiglike. The leaves are small scales that are appressed to the stem. The violet flowers are papilionaceous and in long racemes. The fruit is a one-or two-seeded pod. There are three species, distributed in eastern Dagestan, the Caspian region, and Middle Asia. The shrub E. aphyllum reaches 1 m in height and has ascending branches. Some species are used as sand stabilizers and ornamental greenery in deserts.
