bounced e-mail

bounced e-mail

An e-mail message that is returned to the sender by the receiving mail server. Called a "non-delivery receipt" (NDR), "non-delivery report" (NDR), "non-delivery notification" (NDN) or "delivery status notification" (DSN), messages are bounced because the recipient does not have an account on that mail server or the recipient's address is misspelled. E-mail can also be bounced back by either the outgoing or receiving mail server if file attachments exceed a maximum limit. See e-mail and backscatter spam.
