Dithapni

Dithapni

(also Dithapri, Chitkhapni, Chitkhapri), the remains of an ancient settlement in the province of Hwanghae (Democratic People’s Republic of Korea). It was discovered in 1957 by the archaeologist Hung Tsin Yui. Its principal layers date from the Neolithic. Square subterranean and semi subterranean dwellings have been found with pits and large vessels for storing food. Various stone weapons and tools—lenticular and rectangular axes, arrowheads and spearheads, grain mortars, and fishing plummets—were also found. The ceramic ware was round-bottomed with comb designs (herringbone, rows of streaks). Millet traces, stone plowshares, and sickles testify to the existence of farming. Among the Bronze Age findings were smooth vessels with handles, fragments of stone daggers, and star-shaped cudgels.
