Dropbox

(1) (drop box) A folder used as a staging area. For example, in iMovie on the Mac, videos dragged to the drop box will be imported the next time the application is run.

(2) A popular cloud storage service from Dropbox, Inc. (www.dropbox.com) that is used to transfer abd synchronize files between desktop and mobile devices. Introduced in 2008, Dropbox is available in free and paid versions. After installing the Dropbox client application in their computers, users drag files into their "My Dropbox" folder, which become available in the My Dropbox folders of other machines and designated users. Files can be kept private or made public, allowing anyone with Internet access and a Web browser to download them. See cloud storage.
