Churikovtsy

an ethicoreligious movement in Russia, part of the temperance movement. The Churikovtsy were named for their founder, I. A. Churikov, a merchant from Samara (born 1862; died after 1930). Churikov preached moral and religious salvation through rejection of alcoholic beverages and smoking. His followers claimed that he possessed the power to cure drunkenness. The Churikovtsy had some influence among the urban lower classes of St. Petersburg and Moscow.
