Microscopic globules, 80 to 1000 nanometres in diameter, of fat, phospholipids, cholesterol, fat-soluble vitamins and other materials. Chylomicrons are formed by the epithelium of the small intestine and are found in the blood during the ingestion of dietary fats, etc. The size of chylomicrons relates to the proportion of fats in the diet, being greatest after high-fat meals. Chylomicrons, and some of their contents are broken don in the liver and the constituents released.
