dataport

(1) An RJ-11 telephone socket that provides an outside line for sending data or a fax via modem. In the 1990s, hotels throughout the U.S. began to install dataports in their rooms for customer use, and long-distance charges were applied. See RJ-11.

(2) An Ethernet socket in a hotel or office that provides a connection to the Internet. In a hotel, dataport usage or Wi-Fi hotspots may or may not be free. See Ethernet.

(3) Any socket used for data communications might be called a dataport.
