Established: 1936.
Location:7 miles northeast of Malta in northeastern Montana.
Facilities:Visitor contact station, wildlife viewing sites (é), photo blind, auto tour route (15 miles).
Activities:Boating, canoeing, hunting, educational programs.
Special Features:Geologic history indicates that Lake Bowdoin was once an oxbow of the pre-glacial Missouri River channel. Today the river lies nearly 70 miles south of the refuge.
Habitats: 15,551 acres of marsh and grassland.
Access: Open during daylight hours.
Wild life: Canada geese, white pelicans, California gulls, ring-billed gulls, cormorants, great blue herons, turtles, snakes, gophers, coyotes, pronghorn antelope, and deer.
