Filed for bankruptcy, landlord trying to evict

Ask a Lawyer

Question

Country: United States of America
State: PennsylvaniaI filed for bankruptcy before the new law went into effect. I am behind in my rent payments & I notified my landlord of my filing. I rec'd a letter back from him telling me that I have to pay my overdue rent in full before my court date. Is this true? How long do I have before he can evict me? Should I just give him what I have until after the hearing (which is Dec. 1st). Should I now obtain an attorney?

Answer

Yes do get an attorney; the attorney will be able to manage this and properly inform all parties etc.--the cost should not be substantial.
