Activities:Camping, swimming, lake and stream fishing, boating (electric motorsonly), hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing,cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, hunting (designated areas).
Special Features:Iowa's first state park, Backbone was named for its narrow and steepridge of bedrock carved by a loop of the Maquoketa River. The park isheavily wooded and provides a refuge for deer, raccoon, fox,turkeys, ruffed grouse, and songbirds.
