engine ice engine iceEngine ice.The ice that forms in the carburetor. Most is caused by a sudden drop in temperature from the vaporization of fuel and the adiabatic cooling that follows the pressure reduction as the air accelerates through the venturi of the carburetor. The ice gradually builds up and blocks the venturi, upsetting the fuel-air mixture with a consequent loss of power. The other form of aircraft icing is airframe icing. |
