data transformation

data transformation

Informatics
The conversion of data from a source data format to a destination data format, which occurs in two steps:
(1) Data mapping, which maps data elements from source to destination, capturing any required transformation; and
(2) Code generation, which creates the transformation program.
Statistics
The application of a deterministic mathematical function to each point in a data set so that the data more closely meet the assumptions of the statistical inference procedure to be applied, or to improve the interpretability of the data or appearance of graphs of the data.
