Erikeev, Akhmed Fazylovich

Born Dec. 3 (16), 1902, in the village of Ul’kundy, in present-day Duvan Raion, Bashkir ASSR; died Sept. 15, 1967, in Moscow. Soviet Tatar poet. Member of the CPSU from 1924.

Erikeev graduated from the Institute of Journalism in Moscow in 1930. His lyric poetry and songs first appeared in print in 1921. The themes of Erikeev’s poetry are varied; his most popular songs are devoted to the motherland, his native re-public, and Soviet youth. He wrote books for children and translated Russian poets into the Tatar language. A deputy to the second and third convocations of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, Erikeev was awarded three orders and several medals.
