case-based discussion

(1) An educational assessment of a specialist trainee in the UK, which is designed to enable the clinical supervisor to provide structured feedback on a recently seen clinical case.
(2) A clinical teaching tool for doctor trainees in the UK, which consists of a structured interview conducted by a supervisor with a trainee in a focused manner around the actual written case records presented by the trainee. It is neither an informal chat nor a formal examination, but rather a process which has both a grading element and a feedback function.
