Deviskhvreli

a cave located 3.5 km from the Kharagouli railroad station in the canyon of the Chkherimela River (Ordzhonikidze Raion, Georgian SSR). A campsite dating from the Upper Paleolithic was discovered there in 1926. It was investigated between 1926 and 1931 by G. K. Nioradze. Numerous flint and obsidian artifacts were found (scrapers chisels, perforators, gravette-type blades). The presence of some segmental microliths links Deviskhvreli with the Mediterranean Paleolithic. Also found were bone implements (awls, presses), part of the lower jaw of a modern-type man, and the bones of Quaternary animals (wild board, urus, fossil bull, Spelaearctus spelaeus [fossil bear], brown bear).
