acro-osteolysis acro-osteolysis (ak?ro-oos?te-ol'i-sis) [acro- + osteolysis] 1. A familial disease causing dissolution of the tips of the bones in the extremities of young children. There is no history of trauma, and spontaneous amputation does not occur. Its cause is unknown. 2. An occupational disease seen in workers who come in contact with vinyl chloride polymerization processes. It is marked by Raynaud's phenomenon, scleroderma-like skin changes, and radiological evidence of bone destruction of the distal phalanges of the hands. Recovery follows removal from exposure.
