Facilities:59 campsites with water and electric hookups, showers, restrooms,picnic areas, screened pavilion, aquatic playground, trails,restaurant, laundry, gift shop, visitor center, exhibits.
Activities:Camping, hiking, prospecting for diamonds and other gems, interpretive programs.
Special Features:First discovered here in 1906, the diamonds come from the erodedsurface of an ancient volcanic pipe. Visitors can search a 37-acreplowed field to prospect for and keep any gems they find, which mayinclude diamonds, amethyst, garnet, jasper, agate, or quartz. SinceCrater of Diamonds became a state park in 1972, more than 25,000diamonds have been carried home by visitors. Notable diamonds foundhere include the largest diamond ever unearthed in the US (40.23carats) and the Strawn-Wagner Diamond, a flawless diamond with thehighest grade a diamond can achieve.
