Compound Internal Combustion Engine

a combination of an internal combustion piston engine and a gas turbine that operates off the piston engine’s exhaust gases; a compound internal combustion engine also has a compressor for the air being injected into the engine cylinders. This type of engine is used as an aircraft and ship power plant and in other applications because of its high efficiency.
