Brachyspira pilosicoli

An extremely slow-growing and fastidious gram-negative, oxygen-tolerant, anaerobic spirochete, which colonises many animal species. It is commonly (circa 30%) isolated from the faeces of people of developing countries and in HIV+ patients and male homosexuals in Western societies, and often isolated from patients with intestinal spirochaetosis.
