Agah Sirri Levent
Levent, Agah Sirri
Born Jan. 26, 1894, on Rhodes. Turkish writer and philologist.
In 1919, Levent graduated from the department of literature of the University of Istanbul, and from 1922 to 1949 he taught literature in higher educational institutions in Turkey. He was editor in chief of the journal Turkish Language and one of the organizers of the publication of the Turkish encyclopedia. He wrote the sentimental novel Sufferings (1928) and a series of monographs on the works of Turkish and Turkic-language writers. From 1940 to 1946, Levent was a deputy to the Majlis (Turkish parliament).
