Caspians
Caspians
tribes of the Ibero-Caucasian group who inhabited the steppe regions of eastern Azerbaijan. They were first mentioned by Herodotus in the fifth century B.c. Their chief occupation was nomadic stock raising. Later (before the first century B.c.), the Caspians merged with the Medes, Albani, and other tribes. The tribes’ name was given to the Caspian Sea as well as to one of the regions of ancient Azerbaijan—Caspiana.
