Drug Baby Argument

A social dilemma that involves public health policy and personal freedom: on the one hand, no pregnant woman should knowingly ingest a substance, especially of abuse—e.g., alcohol, cigarettes, crack cocaine, heroin, and others—that would adversely affect the foetus—which ‘state interest’ strives to protect from harm; on the other hand, the US Constitution protects individual—i.e., the mother’s—rights and freedoms
