fireball model

fireball model

[¦fīr‚bȯl ¦mäd·əl] (astrophysics) A model of gamma-ray bursts according to which a black hole accelerates jets of gas or plasma to relativistic velocities, at about 0.9999 of the speed of light, and the huge amount of kinetic energy in these jets is dissipated in internal collisions within the jets, which produce the gamma-ray emission.
