Braille Print

a raised-dot print for writing and reading by the blind, worked out by L. Braille.

A combination of six dots is the basis of Braille print. Braille used the order of letters in the Latin alphabet. The upper and middle dots of the six-dot figure represent the first letters of the alphabet. To represent subsequent letters, the lower left dot of the six-dot figure is added, then the left and right dots, then the right dot. The letters of the Russian alphabet can be represented by these same marks, with the addition of special symbols. Different combinations of the six-dot figure also make it possible to represent numbers, punctuation marks, and mathematical, chemical, and musical symbols.
