Cassette, Tape

Cassette, Tape

a device in the form of a sealed flat box containing a magnetic tape.

The tape cassette is inserted into a tape recorder and the tape transport mechanism puts the tape in motion. The cassette is coupled with the other functional parts of the tape recorder through small windows in the housing. The device protects the tape from accidental damage, and it is simple to use and convenient to store.

The cassettes in use contain either one or two rolls of closed-loop or free-loop tape. Wide-tape cassettes are used in video tapemachines.
