Asian Anticyclone

(Central Asian anticyclone, Mongolian anticyclone, or Siberian anticyclone), a region of high atmospheric pressure over Asia on long-range mean charts of the winter months; one of the seasonal centers of atmospheric activity. The average pressure in the center of the Asian anticyclone in January exceeds 1,030 millibars (0.103 meganewton per sq m [MN/m²]). The Asian anticyclone is the result of the prevalence and intensification of anticyclones in the winter over the chilled Asian continent. The pressure may reach 1,050 millibars (0.105 MN/m²) in such anticyclones. The Asian anticyclone is associated with very cold (in the ground layers) winters of the Asian interior, which are characterized by clear skies, little wind, and little snow. In summer the Asian anticyclone is supplanted by the Asian low.
