Born Nov. 29, 1866, in Hull, Yorkshire; died July 23, 1938, in New Haven, Connecticut. American astronomer and mathematician. Specialist in celestial mechanics. Professor at Yale University (1907).
Brown constructed a new analytic theory for the motion of the moon, which was more accurate than P. Hansen’s theory, and computed new tables of lunar motion. He also studied the motion of Jupiter’s eighth satellite.
