Ernshtedt, Viktor Karlovich
Born Dec. 2 (14), 1854, in St. Petersburg; died there Aug. 8 (21), 1902. Russian classical philologist; specialist in classical paleography. Academician of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences (1898).
Ernshtedt became a professor at the University of St. Petersburg in 1884. He engaged primarily in textual criticism of the works of such ancient authors as Antiphon, Andocides, Isaeus, Dinarchus, Lycurgus, Menander, and Suetonius. He collaborated in an edition of Kekaumenos’ Strategicon and in a description of the bishop Porfirii’s manuscript collection at the St. Petersburg Public Library.
