Castell sign (kas-tel′) [Donald O. Castell, contemporary U.S. gastroenterologist] A physical finding indicative of an enlarged spleen. Splenomegaly is suggested by dullness to percussion in the left anterior axillary line (at the level of the eighth or ninth rib) of a supine patient at full inspiration.
