Circular Driveway

Circular Driveway

(in Russian, pandus; from the French pente douce,”gentle slope”), a rectilinear or curvilinear inclined ramp for carriages or motor vehicles that leads to a building whose main entrance is above the ground floor. Such a driveway enables vehicles to drive up to the upper floors. In some cases, a circular driveway takes the place of both interior and exterior stairs. In the 20th century, such driveways have been constructed for public and industrial buildings, transportation stations, garages, and underpasses.
