Batsara Preserve

in the Georgian SSR, located on the southern slopes of the Greater Caucasus, on the left bank of the Batsara River, right tributary of the Alazani. Situated at an elevation ranging from 700 to 1,800 m, the preserve has an area of 3,032 hectares. It was created in 1935 to protect the natural complex of forest and yew; the age of these trees ranges from 300–500 to 1,000 years and more. In addition to yew, there is beech, maple, elm, ash, and linden and in the underbrush, butcher’s broom and filbert.
