Davydov, Lev Konstantinovich

 

Born Oct. 19. 1893, in Tashkent; died Dec. 12, 1968, in Leningrad. Soviet geographer and hydrologist; doctor of geographical sciences (1947).

Davydov became director of the Middle Asian Hydro-meteorological Institute in 1930. He worked in Leningrad at the State Hydrological Institute beginning in 1933 and became one of the sponsors and directors of the USSR Water Cadastre. At Leningrad University from 1935 on, he became director of the subdepartment of hydrology in 1938. He studied the physical and geographic laws of drainage formation and behavior. A glacier in Middle Asia has been named in his honor.
