Fedor Ioakimovich Griboedov

Griboedov, Fedor Ioakimovich

Year of birth unknown; died 1673. Author of one of the historical works of the 17th century; secretary of the Office of the Kazan Palace during 1632–64; member of the commission for drawing up the Code of Laws of 1649; a secretary in the Razriadnyi Prikaz (Military Office) in 1664–71.

In 1669, on Tsar Aleksei Mikhailovich’s commission, Gri-boedov compiled The History of the Tsars and Grand Princes of the Russian Land (up to 1667). The purpose of the history was to link the origin of the ruling house of the Romanovs to the dynasty of Riurik’s descendants and, through the latter, to the Roman emperor Augustus, a theory that has no scholarly basis.
