Established: 1958.
Location:20 miles northeast of Alexandria, Louisiana.
Facilities:Visitor contact station, observation towers, boardwalk trail (é), hiking trails, auto tour route, fishing pier (é).
Activities:Fishing, hunting, hiking, educational programs.
Special Features:Refuge lies adjacent to Catahoula Lake, a state-owned wetland. The lake's water level is managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) in accordance with an agreement among the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and Fish & Wildlife Service.
Habitats: 25,043 acres of lowland hardwood forest and abandoned farm fields.
Access: Year round during daylight hours.
Wild life: Migratory waterfowl (primarily mallards), wood ducks, songbirds, raptors, white-tailed deer, alligators, cricket frogs, and squirrel.
